We are Champions!
From Warm Up & Wrap Up to Genius Hour, we get to spend quite a bit of time over the course of the week! This provides us the perfect opportunity to become a Champion for these kids especially. Our mixed grade-level Warm Ups loop with teachers allowing us to build strong, positive relationships over the course of their time at Eisenhower. Thus through our redesign research, the Champion Room was emerged!

How does it work? The Champion Room is a restorative approach that we have added into our schoolwide discipline policy. When students commit a minor offense during class time (such as displaying disruptive behavior, refusal to work, or failure to follow teacher directives) then they would receive a yellow card (below) . The yellow card is a small card that provides students with a visual warning of their poor behavior. If the student continues to make poor decisions then they will be handed the reflection sheet (right) and walk to their Champion's classroom. The reflection sheet is a form that helps the student process their behavior and reflect on the impact that their behavior has on themselves and their classmates. It's bright pink paper serves as a hall pass and a visual to staff.
In the Champion Room there should be a designated spot that your WuWu student can go when they arrive. Once there, they take a few moments to deescalate and begin reflecting on their behavior. On average, kids may be in their Champion's Room 5-10 minutes. Following that, students return to their classrooms with their reflection sheet, which will then be used to guide a restorative conversation between the student and teacher. |
